What dilution can lower
Partial water replacement can reduce dissolved substances that are not easily removed by normal filtration, including cyanuric acid, salt and calcium hardness. It does not automatically solve algae or sanitation problems.
Why fill-water testing matters
Replacement water contributes its own chemistry. Entering zero when fill water contains calcium or salt will underestimate the required replacement.

Never empty a pool without understanding structural and groundwater risks. Vinyl liners, fiberglass shells and high water tables require special caution, and local rules may control where water can be discharged.

How does partial water replacement lower CYA or salt?
Removing water removes the dissolved material in that water. Replacing it with water at a lower concentration dilutes the remaining pool.
Why does the calculator ask for fill-water ppm?
Replacement water may already contain calcium, salt or another measured substance, which changes the final concentration.
Can filtration lower cyanuric acid?
Standard pool filtration does not remove dissolved CYA. Dilution is a common method, subject to local and structural constraints.
Should I drain the calculated amount all at once?
Not necessarily. Pool type, groundwater and discharge restrictions may require staged replacement or professional assistance.
Why might the final reading differ from the estimate?
Pool volume may be inaccurate, mixing may be incomplete, tests have uncertainty and the fill-water reading can change.
Can this calculator be used for metals?
The dilution math applies to a dissolved reading, but metal treatment and staining risk require product-specific and professional guidance.
What if fill water is higher than my target?
Dilution with that water cannot reach the target. Another water source or treatment approach may be needed.
Do I need to rebalance after refill?
Yes. Test sanitizer, pH, alkalinity, calcium and stabilizer as applicable after the water is fully mixed.
